How to Optimize Hybrid Team Work

 

Covid-19 continues to be a catalyst for change in the global workplace experience. The original work from home environment challenged many of us to adapt to new ways of digital work, which we are still testing and iterating today. A predictable first instinct was to replicate the office environment by scheduling meetings for anything and everything that needed to get done. This quickly escalated to Zoom meetings for hours on end with little designated time for individual focus work. Microsoft conducted a study to see how their users were interacting with each other during the pandemic, compared to pre-pandemic work habits. They found by February 2021, typical Microsoft Teams users more than doubled their time spent in meetings. They also found Teams users were “sending 45% more chats per week, and 42% more chats per person after hours.” The data shows we are collaborating more, but at the expense of our work autonomy and personal flexibility.
